When Do You Need Bottles?
You can able to use feeding bottle from day one, but if you're
breastfeeding you won't want to present a feeding bottle for some weeks until
your baby is a pro at nursing. If you give your baby a bottle too soon, the big
worry is that they will then refuse to breastfeed because milk from a bottle
comes out faster.
Babies usually feed on bottles until at least one year old. That’s
when the American Academy of Pediatrics says it’s OK to give your child cow’s
milk. However, many breastfeeding moms continue to nurse well into the second
year. Also, you’ll likely want to introduce your child to sippy cups, used to
transition kids from bottles to regular cups, between one and two years of age.
How to Choose the Bottle material?
Mostly bottles used for feeding babies are made of glass silicone
plastic and stainless steel.
Plastic bottles- are light, inexpensive and readily available in the
market. The only worry while using a plastic bottle is that even a BPA free
plastic bottle can emit chemicals to the baby food. Plastic bottles also
deteriorate in quality when in regular use and need to be replaced from time to
time.
Feeding bottles which are made of glass and are heavy can be broken
easily. Silicone covers are available to protect the glass bottle. The positive
part is that it is BPA free it lasts longer than plastic bottles. It is easily
available in the market but a little more expensive than plastic bottles Silicone
bottles are Unbreakable and light in weight and BPA free. They are most
expensive than the plastic and glass bottles. You may not be able to buy
silicone bottles from a drug store or a grocery store if its nipple cracks or
breaks a quick placement would become a bit difficult. This makes it use a
little inconvenient for the Mothers.
Stainless steel bottles are BPA free, Unbreakable, light and are long
lasting but like silicone bottles, these are expensive and not easily available
in the market.
